Aintree 2014 fashion recap: the good the bad and the ugly

It might have been the biggest race of the year, but our eyes were firmly fixed on the fashion as thousands of women got their best dresses on in an attempt to win the Ladies Day best dressed prize at Aintree over the weekend. It seems the racegoers were in two minds as to the best way to achieve this, with some women opting for sophisticated and chic race-day attire, whilst others preferred to dazzle in risqué and flamboyant outfits.

The Liverpool ladies turned out in full force with goosebumps the main accessory as they shunned coats and wraps in favour of flaunting their tans and racy outfits. From glamorous maxis that wouldn't have looked out of place on a red carpet to bodycons designed for a night on the town, there were feathered hats and fascinators galore, we even spotted one made of mini Cheddars!

The Royals turned out too, and we're not just talking about Zara Phillips, as Queen of the WAGs Coleen Rooney lead the way in a considerably conservative bright pink outfit and model Danielle Lloyd opted for a fitted coral number with matching hat. Television royalty, the stars from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding also made an impact in their usual attire, shunning the 'smart dress is preferable' dress code for fancy-dress-esque outfits.

Make sure you get into the best-dressed album with our vetted collection of race day-ready dresses and check out our Racing Calendar to find out where to go and what to wear. Meanwhile take inspiration and caution from these Aintree attendees:
