It's sheer and simple, baby

It's crystal clear that the transparent trend of sheer fabrics is in full swing this fall, despite the undeniable fact that temperatures are beginning to ominously creep down... The bad news, ladies, is that we may have to (for now at least) kiss a teary goodbye to the candy-pop pastel-coloured sheer skirts and blouses that were billowing down our Spring/Summer runways. But- do not despair! We can cling on to the sultry sheer trend thoughout Autumn/Winter as it takes a dark and stormy turn away from the sugary hued accents of summer and into the Gothic blacks that autumn is beckoning, in a myriad of mixed sheer fabrics and textures.

It's gothic galore on the A/W 12 catwalks with leather, vampy lips, and sheer fabrics dominating the 2012/13 collections of Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Alberta Ferretti- to name just a few. These divine designers have incorporated sheer black chiffon, knarly netting, and delicate lace into their key pieces in a bid to give the sheeny sheers of summer a romantic-goth makeover. The runways are swarming with strategically placed opaque panels, tempestuous swaths of chiffon and lace layering amass with intricate embellishments and clashing fabrics. The sheer dress is back with a bite fierce enough to compete with the frosty winter weather- and we are utterly bewitched. Take a look at Team LBD's favourite ways to wear the sheer and sexy new trend...

Full-length and see-through

Sheer lace layering is a key feature to the Gothic trend, and no dress can do this alluring fabric more justice than the elaborate floor-grazing evening gown. We are smitten over our very Naomi range of Little Black Dresses whose lashings of sultry lace layering and feminine form is reminiscent of an A-listing Dolce and Gabbana number. Featuring a sweetheart neckline, figure-hugging bodice and short black underlining, the secret ingredient to this coquettish gown, is- of course- the swaths of sheer lace detailing that sweep down to the floor in a trailing fishtail design, demurely concealing acres of skin while simultaneously exposing a peek-a-boo flash that is alluring without revealing too much- subtle sexy at it's very best. Don this beauty if you have killer curves and a desire to conquer the sheer-trend this fall with red-carpet worthy style! Let this dress do the talking and wear with minimal accessories, peep-toe heels, and hair pulled back into a relaxed chignon a la Laetitia Casta in D&G.

Alternatively, if you are the lucky owner of a long, lean, leggy silhouette, follow in supermodel Carla Delevigne's dainty footsteps, who recently sported a short flutter sleeved, floor-length dress by Chanel with sheer see-through layering. Opt for our Z-mode Grace Dress for a copy-cat look and an instant winter update on the sheer dress. Who needs curves when you can inject your own edgy take on the sultry look with these sheer, short flutter-sleeves and saucy sheer lace skirt- the perfect counter-act to the beautifully simplistic, soft jersey high-neck bodice. With A/W trends lusting after clashing textures and intricate embellishments, this dress has done all the hard work for you! Sheer lace versus solid black jersey, peppered with intricate beading and an elaborate corsage- you will feel like a supermodel in this cutting-edge sheer gown. Fact.

Sheer and subtle panelling

As much as we would all love to be swanning off to balls clad head-to-toe in Victorian-esque attire on a day-to-day basis, many of you at this point may be gingerly contemplating whether you could get away with a floor-trailing lacy number to that cocktail-do next week? Stop right there. Because, thank goodness!, the sheer trend does translate into a more quotidian style. (Cue- sighs of relief all round.) The answer? Sheer panelled frocks. Shorter, simpler, but by no means less stylish, we have a long line of frocks lined just waiting to be swept up into you're A/W wardrobes.

This season's little black dress has been injected with a hit of cool via glorious sheer inserts here there and everywhere, tantalisingly highlighting peeps of your best bits. Fist off- the bust, of course! Sheer bust panels are so hot right now, perfect for those looking quizzically at the on-coming clouds and quaking in our stilettos at the thought of baring a chest full of cleavage. Celebrities have fully embraced the power of this subtle-sexy look, donning a sheer panelled LBD for instant elegant allure.

And you can too! For die-hard girly-girls, desperate to translate the romantic vibe of the gothic-glam catwalk trends to parties and dates without completely terrifying your beau, our Rise Fashion Edith little black dress was made for you. Another one for petite curvaceous gals to swoon over, the nipped in waist and sweetheart silhouette will delightfully define your curves while the sheer bust panelling adds a demure sexiness that won't fail to make you feel utterly divine. What's more, you will gain extra points on the style-charts with the pretty crochet detailing embroided onto the sheer bust- a clash of textures that adds girly chic to an otherwise incredibly sultry feature. Turn around and a sheer, deep v-neck back will evoke gasps, swoons and admiring smiles from bashful boys and fashion-savvy females alike. Girly-girl flirt or beckoning temptress? We love the ambiguity.

We also guarantee you'll be going dotty for Rise Fashion's sheer Christie dress, whose sultry mesh bust panelling is strewn with polka-dots, a la the lovely Holly Willoughby. This design is more versatile, perfect for the day-to-night look and girls of all shapes and sizes. Team with ankle boots and a this season's luxe leather jacket for casual cool or vamp up with platform heels and oversized jewellery for glitz-and-glamour.
