LBD has become an iconic symbol for women all over the world for many decades.
The LBD “little black dress” is considered indispensable these days and vital to complete a wardrobe for all women and fashion observers, who believe it’s a “rule of fashion” that every woman should own a simple, elegant LBD that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. Because it is meant to be an essential of the wardrobe for a number of years, the style of the little black dress ideally should be as simple as possible, a short black dress that is clearly part of a trend would not qualify because it would soon appear dated.
So the question many find themselves asking is who was originally behind the first LBD? Well after digging deep, fashion historians ascribe the origins of the little black dress to the 1920s designs of Gabrielle COCO Chanel.
In times where black were still considered a sad colour and represent the mourning of a death, being mainly worn to funerals. Chanel was embracing her fashion sense and designed the first ever LBD. The 1920′s were really the first time women stepped out of their original appearance. They turned their backs on the long layers of clothes and hair, and showed a little skin but still kept it classy.
Chanel encouraged and embraced the style and it was in 1926 she shot the first LBD on the cover of Vogue. From then on it was to be considered a sort of uniform for all women with any taste.
