This week in dresses: London Fashion Week vs the red-carpet

This week has been an overwhelming fashion frenzy, with London Fashion Week bringing out the elite style clan in full force, and a host of A-list stars descending on the red-carpet for their latest film premiere's, talent shows and of course, their day-to-day glamorous parties. But who looked the best?

Red carpet glamour

Despite LFW pulling the fashion focus for the week, we've also seen some show-stopping glamour from the red-carpet. Actress Chloe Moretz was all smiles at an advanced screening of her new film, The Equalizer, in Atlanta on Tuesday, and we probably would be too if we looked as gorgeous as her in this Proenza Schouler mini-dress and Jimmy Choo heels. Over at the Toronto Film Festival, Jennifer Connelly sizzled in a lace Louis Vuitton LBD with dropped hem, which she teamed with a gorgeous pair of white sandals and box clutch. Funny actress Tina Fey stepped out in a sophisticated, bold Osman number at the premiere of her new film This is Where I Leave You in Los Angeles on Monday, which featured a sweetheart neckline and playful asymmetric hemline. Meanwhile, Katie Holmes spiced up her usual conservative dress sense at the Dujour Magazine Party in New York on Tuesday, when she wore a ribbed Azzedine Alaia dress with thigh-skimming hemline.

Gorgeous Victoria's Secret model Erin Heatherton showed of her slim figure in a monochrome Tanya Taylor dress at the NFL Hall of Fashion launch event in New York on Tuesday, while Kirsten Dunst looked graceful and chic at the New York premiere of her new film The Two Faces of January, as she stepped out in a white embellished Chanel Couture gown. Working the LBD's, we saw Heidi Klum in a slinky, feminine Zac Posen gown on the red-carpet at the America's Got Talent season nine finale on Wednesday, and Sarah-Jessica Parker showed us why she is still our all time favourite style icon as she worked this unusual, billowing Tracy Reese dress at the Art Of The Pixel Gala at Gotham Hall in New York. We love her cute Chanel waist belt-bag, convenient and chic!

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week has been hot on everyone's lips and it's been a glorious week of groomed and sartorially styled outfits from the streets, to celebs, bloggers and of course the runway. It must have taken months of planning to get organised, we struggle to choose an outfit for work every morning, let alone when choosing something to be judged by the most critical eyes in fashion! Read our feature on the most gorgeous and glamorous dresses from London Fashion Week here.

The Shows

Turning out for the catwalk shows, celebrities were on their best dressed behavior to make a chic impression for the most fashionable week in the year. Former model Daisy Lowe was pictured in outfit one of three on Day 4 of LFW, as she attended the Giles Deacon show in a waist cinching pink tulle-dress, whilst model friend Portia Freeman also opted for a stunning, feminine look in a printed Roksanda Illincic gown, which she teamed with nude Jimmy Choo heels for the Roksanda Illincic catwalk show. Downton Abbey star Lily James was certainly a head turner in this ultra-glam, fitted, lace Marchesca gown as she attended the designers catwalk show, while Alexa Chung demonstrated a slightly more understated approach to the shows at the Henry Holland catwalk, wearing a subtle roll-neck LBD paired with loafers, backpack and a Chanel jacket casually draped over her shoulders. Her idea of casual is still more than the average annual salary!

Former X-factor judge Nicole Scherzinger showed us how to dress with winter glamour at the Temperley London show, where she teamed an insect print mini-dress with thigh-high black boots.

Also attending the Marchesa show, Olivia Palermo was as always dressed to perfection in this lace Marchesca gown to attend the Marchesa show. We love her quirky scarf-tucked-in-to-belt trick, which will definitely be a style note to take for those blustery winter nights approaching. Model Amber Le Bon worked a stunning printed Peter Pilotto dress with contrasting neon green clutch, and we're in love with her gorgeous pointed heels! Ellie Goulding veered away from the feminine prints, and girlish florals, opting for a sultry and sexy LBD at the Topshop Unique show.

The After Parties

With every catwalk show comes a glamorous after party, and guest of honour Kate Moss stepped out in an eccentric haze of sequins and velour as she attended AnOther magazine's Mardi Gras Party, which had a Live and Let Die theme in case you were wondering. Alexa Chung made her mark again in another LBD as she attended the Downing Street LFW reception, again keeping accessories simple and carrying something pink and furry... it could be a jacket, it could be an animal, we'll never know. Actress Anna Friel worked a figure hugging strapless number at the Peter Pilotto show, and was the epitome of chic feminine glamour at the designers catwalk show, while after her previous Pilotto number, Portia Freeman traded in her flirty and floral look for a gorgeous, lace embellished LBD at the Giles Deacon show.

Model Toni Garn and designer Stella McCartney both looked pristine wearing Stella McCartney at the designers Green Carpet after-party, while Jourdan Dunn and Victoria Beckham donned smouldering mini-dresses at the Vogue London Fashion Week party. Jourdan's emerald shift dress was by designer Ermanno Scervino, while Victoria wore one of her own designs.

Phew! We think that's the lot... at least until next week!
