It's one of the most memorable occasions of the year, a day when the north turn out in colourful force for Aintree Ladies Day. It may be a racing event, but let's face it, it's all about the fashion. And just like last year, we weren't disappointed with the bold offering of style choices on display. Some women opted to grab the attention of the cameras in revealing outfits and dazzling headgear, whilst others preferred a more demure, should we say, appropriate race day look.

We also saw a couple of celebrities turn out for the occasion; Northerner Rebecca Ferguson coordinated her sophisticated pink pencil dress with stunning blue heels and a navy and pink hat. And model and TV presenter Jodie Kidd was dressed perfectly for the Races with a vivid orange dress, smart black coat and coordinating hat and heels.

Bold colours were a clear favourite at the races, although some took this theme to varying levels with their different styles. One woman opted for a bold floral race day dress, whilst another opted to wear every colour of the rainbow.

Some women got the memo, perhaps they read our Races style guide, and dressed smartly for the occasion with appropriate hem lengths, sensible heels, pretty lace styles and chicly coordinated outfits.

And whilst some attempted to fit in with the races theme, others preferred to flash their flesh in cleavage baring dresses, high hemlines and skin-tight styles.

And although the glamour was high at the start of the races, keeping up appearances became less and less imperative as the day went on...

Until finally the flip flops came out.
