A princess, an Oscar-winner and a style icon, Grace Kelly's life was far from average, and now she is in the spotlight again as fashion film of the moment Grace of Monaco, starring Nicole Kidman, was released this weekend. With four decades of Kelly's life spent firmly in the limelight, the Hollywood actress turned princess after meeting Prince Rainier III at Cannes film festival in 1956, was as glamorous as any other princess, as was her wardrobe. Grace Kelly, who once described her apparel as "being like old friends", has had her style echo through the decades as a fashion icon who embodies classic elegance with a girl-next-door charm. In fact, her style in the 50s and 60s was so significant that it still influences the catwalk and high street today; from Dior's beautiful Jaquard bouffant skirts (one of her favourite designers) to quirky Chanel sunglasses that are pure Kelly allure. To recreate the style icon's wardrobe for Nicole Kidman in the fashion film of the moment, costume designer Gigi Lepage created 44 looks from Kelly's wardrobe with the help of endless fashion archives. Infamous fashion house Dior recreated two of her suits. "Grace of Monaco was so beautiful and graceful, and was also a sophisticated and elegant woman,' said Lepage. "She was a great actress who became the beautiful princess of a little paradise. For all these reasons she is unforgettable." And who better than a Hollywood princess to emulate for true style and class?
