New Year, New Wardrobe

wardrobe-feature We're already a week into January and we're still going strong with our resolutions (give or take a few hic-cups here and there), but we like to think there's no better way to get that feeling of a "new you” quite like a little wardrobe overhaul!

We strongly believe that there's no better way to kick-start self improvement than giving your wardrobe the ultimate sort out, that's because when we don't have to put so much thought into what we're wearing, we find it much easier to start the day feeling positive. Here are our tips on getting the most out of your wardrobe:

Clear it out!

1. When did you last wear it?

Be honest with yourself, when did you last wear the item in question? If it was longer 6 months ago then maybe it's time to donate it to charity?

2. Is it sentimental?

Are you holding onto something because it's sentimental or because it was a gift? Would the person really mind if you let it go to make space for new? If you'd rather keep it, we like to have a shelf just for items we don't wear, but keep for the memories. This way it reduces the clutter in our working-wardrobe, and we don't have to make any hard parting decisions.

3. The Backwards Hangers trick

One of our favourite ways to really put our wardrobes to the test is the backwards hanger trick! All you have to do is start off with all your hangers facing the same way, and once you wear an item, place it back in the wardrobe with the hanger facing the opposite way. At the end of a three month period you can clearly see which garments you've worn, and which ones you haven't even touched. Then you can donate the ones that you know you won't miss!

Getting your new wardrobe started

1. What do you want your personal style to be?

Think carefully about your personal style and get a few great items that'll work well together, this way you won't have to worry about creating an outfit every day, as everything in your wardrobe will look fantastic together!

2. Have a stunning staple evening dress

It's important to keep one stunning go-to party dress you love in your wardrobe. Not only will it reduce the panic of what to wear before an event or party, you're able to change it up with a few different accessories or a new pair of shoes. The staple evening dress should be comfortable, flattering, suit your body and perfect for any occasion.

3. Invest in your clothes

Our clothing philosophy is to spend more money on a few items that you absolutely love, make you feel great and will last a while. We'd rather spend a little bit more to get a great quality garment than spend a few pounds on an item that might fall apart in a month. Investing a little more money into an item also forces you to think harder about whether you really love it, or whether you only love it because it's £2. This means that you come away with maybe two lovely, timeless shirts that'll last through seasons, rather than buying seven cheap shirts that'll get old quickly. Plus, you're much less likely to toss a £50 shirt into the bin after a few month's wear, and the environment will thank you for that.
