May continues to be the biggest month in the fashion calendar with two weeks of red carpet glamour at the Cannes Film Festival with the hottest celebrities and models showing off their best looks. Here are our top trends from the Cannes red carpet.

Red on the Red Carpet 

Kaia Gerber in Celine, Deepika Padukone in Louis Vuitton, and Izabel Goulart in Ashi Studio

 

While some may consider it a fashion faux pas, the stars at Cannes definitely didn’t agree as they brought an array of gorgeous red gowns to the Film Festival. Deepika Padukone wore a stunning red satin Louis Vuitton gown with a peplum waist for her red carpet appearance, model Izabel Goulart went for a red jumpsuit from Ashi Studio with a statement feather train, while Kaia Gerber opted for a simpler halter neck gown from Celine.

Tremendous Tulle

Cindy Bruna in Giambattista Valli, Winnie Harlow in Off-White, and Kat Graham in Ashi Studio

 

The tulle trend has yet to die down and had a strong presence on the Cannes red carpet, with voluminous ballgowns and statement trains everywhere you looked. We particularly loved Cindy Bruna’s stunning pink tulle gown from Giambattista Valli, and Kat Graham wearing Ashi Studio using tulle to create a unique bodice and a huge train.

Bare Shoulders

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive, Elle Fanning in Armani Prive, and Jennifer Connelly in Louis Vuitton

 

Showing off your shoulders was a definite trend at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, with strapless dresses, two-pieces and jumpsuits everywhere on the red carpet. Anne Hathaway epitomised elegant glamour in a white strapless sequin co-ord from Armani Prive, Elle Fanning was ethereal in a soft pink fishtail gown also from Armani, and Top Gun: Maverick star Jennifer Connelly went for a sleek silver embellished evening dress with a bardot neckline from Louis Vuitton.

Sparkling Silver 

Alessandra Ambrosio in Alberta Ferretti, Katherine Langford in Prada, and Eva Longoria in Cristina Ottaviano

 

Celebs turned up the glamour and brought disco fever to the Cannes Red Carpet in sparkling silver looks. Alessandra Ambrosio and Eva Longoria opted for metallic strapless gowns from Alberta Ferretti and Cristina Ottaviano respectively, while Katherine Langford really made a statement in a sequin embellished gown with a dramatic train at the back from Prada.

Daring Cut-Outs

Adriama Lima in Balmain, Poppy Delevingne in Miu Miu, and Cindy Bruna in Monot

 

The stars dared to bare on the Cannes red carpet as revealing cut-outs took centre stage in many of the gorgeous gowns. Adriana Lima clearly took a leaf out of Rihanna’s book for her bump-bearing black evening dress from Balmain, while Cindy Bruna opted for a slashed front long-sleeve gown from Monot for a sultry yet elegant look.

Sheer Delights

As well as the cut-out trend, the Cannes attendees were also showing some skin with sheer dresses and gowns from the hottest designers. Not afraid of making a statement, feather-embellished looks were a favourite of many of the celebs on the Cannes red carpet. British model Leomie Anderson wore a gorgeous Cinderella style blue ballgown from Rami Kadi with a voluminous feather train, while German influencer Leonie Hanne went for a unique crystal-embellished jumpsuit from Georges Hobeika with a statement white feather jacket.

Satin Elegance

While ballgowns and volume seemed to take centre stage at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, there was also a good showing of elegant satin dresses for the red carpet as well. Model Grace Elizabeth was effortlessly glamorous in a gold satin gown with a halter neckline from Eman Alajlan, and actress Claire Holt went for a beautiful pink satin dress from Nicolas Jebran for the Cannes amfAR Gala.

Bella Hadid in Versace, Elsa Hosk in Valentino, and Sara Sampaio in PINKO

 

Keeping it classic, the stars at Cannes showed that black really is the new black in an array of dark and elegant gowns and dresses. Bella Hadid pulled a stunning vintage Versace black gown with a voluminous draped waist from the house’s archive, Sara Sampaio wore a custom black gown with a ruffle trim from PINKO, while Elsa Hosk opted for a structed glove-sleeved mini dress from Valentino with a matching headband and platform heels.
