Team LBD would like to wish a very, very happy birthday to the iconic and much adored, Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel who, with her unprecedented fashion genius, transformed the perception of the little black dress from mourning attire to a timeless staple which, above all others, exudes class and sophistication. The origins of our precious little black garments can only rightfully be credited to the 1920 designs of Coco Chanel which were intended to be versatile and attractive to the mass-market, combining luxury and mainstream appeal- a mantra that has driven the fashion world to date. Birthdays are a time for jubilation, so tonight we may sip champagne and wear our most treasured Chanel (or Chanel inspired!) pieces, however, the legacy of this unparalleled design virtuoso is celebrated continuously. Every day the world's women slink into Coco designs or fantasise about doing so whilst purchasing the myriad of aspiring replicas. Vera Farmiga, Rachel Weisz, Julianne Moore and Kate Beckinsale are amongst the incalculable array of celebrities who have donned designs that shamelessly carry the sophisticated Chanel trait of stylish simplicity. Conservative hemlines, sculpted silhouettes and rounded necklines adorn at least one design of almost every single design house collection or retail store rack right up to the Autumn/Winter 2011 collections of designers including: Jean Paul Gaultier, Emilio Pucci, Miu Miu and Stella McCartney. Will there ever be an era that isn't seduced by Chanel? Not in this lifetime, we hope! Happy Birthday, Coco Love, Team LBD x
