Little Black Jacket

In fashion land it may be the little black dress that is a world renowned, iconic item and one that will be found in every girl's wardrobe, but for the likes of Karl Lagerfeld who has designed for Fendi, Chloe and Chanel, and Carine Roitfeld who was the editor-in-chief at Vogue Paris for ten years, the little black jacket is close behind in the fashion must-have stakes. Now in honour of Chanel's classic cover-up, they've teamed up to reinvent the timeless piece with the help of their famous friends...

This year the fashionable duo are working together to recreate the essence of Chanel's original little black jacket by photographing and filming 109 celebrities, who have adapted the versatile jacket to their own personal style for the collection. Celebrities who've lent their stylish silhouettes for the shoot include Lily Allen, Anna Wintour (made recognisable only by her signature bob), Georgia May Jagger, Sarah Jessica Parker, Daphne Guinness and Kanye West – yes boys can don this delectable wardrobe essential too!

Urbancode Fringed Leather Jacket in Black, £299, Z-mode Greta Jacket, £270, Urbancode Cropped Star Jacket, £205. Team LBD love Lagerfeld's innovative mind and what he has accomplished with Coco Chanel's classic LBJ (that's Little Black Jacket), so much so that we're adding lace and leather black jackets to our daily look, but his poignant project has further reminded us of of our first little black love, the LBD! Similarly to Lagerfeld and Roitfeld's beloved jacket, the original LBD was created by Coco Chanel and came to the forefront of fashion in 1926 during a time when black was worn to express mourning. However the women in the 1920s adored the dress so much with its elegant style and ability to be dressed up or down that it soon became the dress for any occasion.

Today, over 85 years later, every designer worth their mettle has put their stamp on the classic little black dress and it has evolved greatly from its former self and is now a style-savvy staple for any fashion-conscious female from Audrey in her signature pencil dress and pearls, to Victoria Beckham's chic and sleek 21st century take on the classic.
