We, at Team LBD know weddings can be stressful - especially finding that perfect dress which embodies style but also has staying power.  Let’s face it, weddings can be challenging with British weather, dinner and dance-floor demands! Well, the message is simple. Sit back, relax and follow these key style tips from designer and fashion industry expert, Dionne Dixon - the name behind star brands such as Amy Childs and Millie Macintosh, and product director of our very own Little Black Dress Collection.

Fashion Trends for SS17 Wedding Guest Dresses

Fashion trends for this year are perfect for wedding guest dresses, according to Dionne, who has been in the industry for more than 35 years with top brands such as Jane Norman, Lipsy and more recently our very own Little Black Dress Collection.

“In fact, the new trends for embellishment, metallics and the 1950’s vintage look are coming through very strongly in our wedding shop."

Floaty Hemlines

Key wedding guest looks include this season’s soft, feminine floaty hemlines

skimming the knee.

“Chiffon, frills and ruffles are the perfect combination for guests and mother of the bride, looking pretty whilst maintaining a structured waistline softened by embellishments.”

Guests are advised to go for colours such as silver-grey with nude, or perhaps this season’s hottest colour trend: rose gold - teaming with silver shoes and a clutch for ultimate style.

Lace - A Summer Staple

Lace is also a key player, something Little Black Dress has witnessed as a summer staple for wedding guest dresses for a number of years.

SS17 has a twist with powder blue tones and apricots making a strong fashion-forward statement with nude fabrics beneath a layer of lace.

Vintage Looks

And if you're looking for something a little more flirtatious, try the new

"cocktail" length dresses.

“Go for full skirts that skim the knee as a more casual alternative to a full length look - especially as most guests don’t want to upstage the bride by wearing a long dress,” Dionne continues.

“Or opt for a midi dress in something like an opaque blue, floaty and feminine. This kind of dress blends seamlessly from day into the evening.”

It can also be a wardrobe favourite revived for family celebrations or race days with different accessories.

Metallic Hues

Don't be afraid of metallics - even if it is just as a slight addition to blend tones or add detail to a simple chic dress.

This can be done by adding jewellery, heels or a hair accessory using rose gold and silver.

Need to know the basics on how to dress to flatter?

“Whatever outfit wedding guests decide, make sure you feel comfortable and carefree, and for me that means beautiful fabrics that are lined and finished with care."

Sleeves

And one of the most common things we hear at Team LBD is many of us like a softer silhouette around the upper body...

"Naturally, people have areas they don’t want to show - rather than disguise the arm completely, as an example, it may be an idea to opt for Bardot-style dresses that have sleeves which cap the arm area. This gives the illusion of longer limbs with all the focus on shoulders."

"Or opt for many of our dresses which have lighter, chiffon sleeves? Again keeping with the SS17 trends of light and floaty in chiffon.”
