Romantic ruffles are huge right now, in all different sizes and shapes. Choose from small ones or over-size ruffles that are textured, colourful, on hemlines or on necklines, by designers or high-street brands. Whichever way you want to wear them, ruffle dresses are a fantastic way to make you feel flirty and feminine. Designers at London Fashion Week gave traditional ruffle dresses a modern twist, with classically feminine labels like Temperley creating voluminous silhouettes with over-sized ruffles while John Rocha rebelled with black ruffle dresses in sensual silks and satins. Ruffles also dominated at New York Fashion Week, with designers such as Ralph Lauren and Marchesa incorporating girly ruffles in their traditionally edgy designs and sharp tailoring. The ruffle trend has transferred to the high street in a big way with Karen Millen and Mango sprucing up smart tailored pieces with flamboyant ruffles in look-at-me-colours. At the Emmy Award ruffles dresses were a hit with Kelly Osborne stepping out in a fantastic black mermaid-esque gown with ruffles at the waist and on the hem. And she isn't the only one loving this look, Cheryl Cole impressed in over-sized black and white ruffles at fellow Girls Aloud-er's first stint as Princess Fiona in Shrek the Musical. If you're adventurous like Kelly and Cheryl have fun with head-to-toe over-sized ruffles, and flamboyant frills in striking colours which look great on a predominantly black dress. Ruffles can be for the fashion-shy too: simply add pretty ruffles to hemlines and necklines and stick to black for a conservative, but on-trend nod to ruffles. Of course, black ruffle dresses are still a designer favourite and Markus Lupfer has some spectacular pieces with his trademark sequins and stitching making an appearance on ruffle features. Juicy Couture and Felder Felder have some great luxury ruffle pieces right here on our site too. Oasis and Coast also have some lovely black ruffle dresses, which make the perfect new cocktail dress, and are a great investment for the party season. See Team LBD's favourite ruffle dresses here.
