This year we've been overwhelmed by the array of mouth-watering trends that have fluttered from the red runway, on to the high street and straight into our wardrobes. From sheer detailing, pencil and peplum skirts to pastel and coveted oxblood colour palettes this year’s trends have been a dazzling array of feminine styles that haven’t disappointed.

And as the little black dress is the classic design continually reinvented decade after decade we thought we'd take a look at the celebs who wore their LBDs (and a few impressive occasion gowns) with the finest flair this year...

10. Emma Watson

At her own film premiere, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Emma Watson caused quite a stir on the red carpet and this time it wasn't because of her fine acting. One of the most memorable outfits we saw last year was Emma’s indecisive black number, perhaps she simply couldn't choose between the well-tailored trouser and the cute sweetheart neckline LBD and so went with both? Either way it worked. And it flattered her figure beautifully showing off her slender shoulders and adding curves and shape to her athletic figure. Emma might not have known it then but she’s ahead of the fashion game shadowing Gucci's SS13 collection. Check out this Kate Fearnley dress to follow in Emma’s prom footsteps 9. Gwen Stefani

What better way to boast a show-stopping gown than at the Cannes Film Festival? Gwen Stefani looked every bit the Hollywood screen siren in this stunning floor length L.A.M.B gown as she paraded the red carpet at the infamous event. With a form-fitting bodice and flowing fishtail, this sequin-covered lace gown assured she was the belle of the ball. Designed by her own fair hands, it’s no surprise this fairytale dress fits like a glove and has a secure place in our top ten. Opt for a floor length gown to mimic Gwen’s chic styling 8. Adele

What does one wear to the Brit Awards? A great British designer like Burberry of course! This figure-flattering long dress was the perfect choice for Adele with its flowing skirt, empire line and three-quarter length sleeves, creating a sleek and chic silhouette for the curvy songstress. Burberry certainly didn't scrimp on style and the sheer sleeves and neck detailing added elegance whilst the embroidered detail at the neck further cemented the dress as a 2012 favourite. 7. Kylie Minogue

As pop's reigning princess there's very little Kylie can do wrong. And in Christmas party season's essential floor-length sequin dress at the Holy Motors premiere in London, Kylie had the world of fashion wrapped around her little finger too.  More of the same in 2013 please Ms Minogue.

6. Nicole Scherzinger

It’s safe to say the battle of the dresses amongst the 2012 X Factor judges was better documented than the contestants themselves and Nicole Scherzinger certainly didn’t disappoint us. Nicole was just right for this stunning gown, with its strapless sweetheart neckline, tight bodice and flowing waterfall train this dress accentuated Nicole’s perfect hourglass frame and featured one of 2012’s most memorable styles, the dip-hem skirt.

5. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Undeniably the peplum has been one of the most popular looks of 2012. And Britain latest girl crush Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been one of the most popular faces to pull it off. Here the modelling maven flattered her figure with a sophisticated pencil dress that featured capped sleeves, a silhouette enhancing peplum and last year’s other leading style- leather panelling. We'll be following Rosie's lead in 2013.

4. Amanda Seyfried

This striking Balenciaga dress presented a couture dream incorporating some of 2012’s most wearable styles, from the pencil skirt to the side split with detailed ruffles and fitted bodice. The elegant waist frill was the cherry on top of the perfectly iced cake, and Amanda Seyfried, elegant and demure was the perfect model.

You won't find a better match for Amanda's look than this amazing Kate Fearnley dress, which is now only £39!

3. Naomie Harris

With 2012’s Bond film Quontum of Solace also came 2012 Bond style, and Team LBD could not have been happier with the turn out during the premieres. Bond girl Naomie Harris proved it wasn't just on-screen that she could shine but in the fashion arena too. This classic black mini dress with statement neckline certainly caught our eye and teamed with a fierce silver spiked necklace Naomie cemented her place on our best dressed list. One of the highlights of the fashion year has to be the Haute Couture Fashion week held in Paris, and Team LBD certainly weren't disappointed, especially when Jessica Alba donned this amazing leather body-con LBD. Undeniably one of the most popular trends of 2012, this leather dress has it all. Not only is it impeccably tailored but the intricate beading across the bodice and skirt only highlighted her enviable figure. Dominatrix chic! Feeling bold enough to copy this lavish leather guise? Then look no further than Team LBD’s handpicked stunning collection of leather dresses. 1. Kate Middleton

Perhaps one of the most memorable dresses of the year was worn by none other than our favourite Duchess to the War Horse premiere in London. Kate looked perfectly elegant and demure in the beautiful Alice Temperley creation that featured a full-length cream bodice with the ever popular lace overlay that had swamped the catwalk and high street all year. Kate has been well documented as the ambassador for high street fashion but to be honest Team LBD would be happy to watch her walk around in couture creations like these every day.
