New designer evening dresses by Bernshaw
Timeless glamour is a concept that all fashion aspires to — style that endures for the fashionistas of the present and future. And what could be a more apt description for a brand that has been creating stunning designer evening and party dresses since 1945? Bernshaw stands as a hub of sparkling sophistication that is as relevant today as it ever was. Still owned by the same family as in its post-war conception days, it champions affordable recreations of designer evening dresses that women of all ages and sizes can wear.
The rise of the brand through the years is as much an education in fashion as it is an introduction to the company. Through all the iconic style moments of the past 50 years Bernshaw has been there to recreate and influence taking inspiration from the Hollywood of today and yesteryear, the designer couture of international catwalks and an aesthetic that is eternally glamorous.
And now for their next trick, Bernshaw have produced a gorgeous new season collection that is new in it's fresh-ness and old in classical grace and poise. Behold, Team LBD's top picks of Bernshaw 2013 at LittleBlackDress.co.uk...
CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD
Buy the Bernshaw Moira Dress in Monochrome, £330, here now.
By the 1950's Bernshaw was already stocked in elite fashion stores such as Harrods and Selfridges, and it is this period that the Moira dress draws inspiration from. The white chiffon top and embellished shoulders simply scream old school elegance while creating a classic silhouette. Rather than being a period piece however embellishment has been celebrated on the S/S13 catwalks of Marchesa which showed glittering accents in much the same way. This is old school brought bang up to date with trend conscience monochrome colour palette and we can't get enough!
SUBTLE 60s CHIC
Buy the Bernshaw Tessa Dress in Red, £348, here now.
The 60's are back this year — just look to recent Alexander McQueen and Louis Vuitton shows to see how the era will soon feature in your wardrobe. Back in the day Bernshaw were dressing the likes of Twiggy and Jane Shrimpton, so we are ready to trust their judgement when it comes to thigh skimming shifts. The shutter pleats of this Tessa shift dress nod to the geometric prints of the era while sheer panels are totally up to date, but what we love most about this style is that it can be dressed up or down depending on your age, occasion and penchant for retro fashion.
MAGNETIC MAGENTA
Buy the Bernshaw Muriel Dress in Magenta, £395, here now.
This was one of the new Bernshaw designs that simply demanded to be showcased; the ultimate va va voom evening dress which clings to every curve and flaunts every asset in shocking magenta. While smoothing over lumps and bumps with figure-flattering ruching detail this daring number doesn't leave much room to hide, but if you have the attitude then the Muriel dress has the sex appeal.
SPORTS LUXE
Buy the Bernshaw Freya Dress, £299, here now.
It was the 80's that saw the brand begin it's affiliation with the show Dallas, the soap's femme fatale looks incorporating easily into their designs. However, for a look that is more current than cougar Bernshaw has looked to 80's sports luxe which maintains a casual, preppy vibe that is both fashionable yet functional. Equally DKNY have championed this trend for spring, so get the look for less in the colour blocking, body-con Freya dress.
ALL THAT GLITTERS..
Buy the Bernshaw Opal Dress in Black, £395, here now.
Much like last season's sumptuous collection of dazzling designer evening dresses the brand has shown off a certain fondness for sparkle with a heavy use of embellishment teamed with skin-tight ruching in the Opal dress. But this season is all about fun, spring-ready party dresses and we feel this little party dress captures a youthful, playful spirit that will appeal to Bernshaw's younger generation of LBD lovers.
