Film and fashion join forces at the V&A

Fashion and film lovers unite as the largest collection of film costumes ever shows at the V&A in the Hollywood Costume exhibition... The V&A exhibit will feature the most iconic and recognisable costumes from films past, with some pieces dating as far back as 1912. Dresses worn by screen (and LBD) idols Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe will sit side by side with more recent additions such as Kate Winslet's boarding dress from Titanic and Keira Knightley's stunning emerald green gown from Atonement. Judy Garland's gingham pinafore dress from The Wizard of Oz will also be reunited with those famous ruby slippers for the first time since filming.

And it's not just gorgeous evening dresses in the exhibition. Male fans will love seeing the iconic jacket worn by Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver alongside Brad Pitt's collection of shirts from Fight Club and even Spider-man's famous disguise. There will also be short clips, montages and interview footage screened throughout, to reveal the stories behind the characters and their costumes. The curator of the exhibition Deborah Nadoolman Landis, who has designed costumes for many films including The Blues Brothers and Indiana Jones, says that the exhibition isn't just a pretty frock show. She added, "This landmark exhibition will provide a once in a lifetime opportunity to explore the most beloved characters in Hollywood history and gain insight in to the role of the costume designer and their vital contribution to cinema storytelling.”

While the majority of costumes displayed come from Hollywood's Golden Age there are some more recent additions including costumes from The Dark Knight, The Iron Lady, Anna Karenina and Avatar. This exhibition is a must-see for all fans of fashion and film! Tickets are available now from the V&A website and the exhibition runs until 27^th January 2013.
