FREE Utterly Elegant exhibition at the V&A TONIGHT!
The dedicated late opening will play host to a fabulous myriad of events, including fashion films, talks from industry insiders, designer workshops and demonstrations; all proving that British elegance reigns supreme. It runs alongside the current exhibition, Ballgowns:British Glamour Since 1950, which went on display earlier this year in the V&A's new fashion galleries. The exhibition has been showcasing more than sixty ballgowns from 1950 to the present day which have been designed for royal balls, red carpet events and prestigious parties. We're certain the LBD will be making an appearance! Expect to be left in utter awe by creations from an array of top designers including Alexander McQueen, Zandra Rhodes and Jonathan Saunders, as well as Norman Hartnell's gown designed for Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Catherine Walker's infamous ‘Elvis dress' worn by the late Princess Diana. Now that's a line up. And what's most exciting about this one-off event is the excuse to get on those glad rags. The V&A are encouraging guests to don their best and most British so it's the perfect opportunity to show off an elegant evening gown and those special occasion pearls. Wear your dress with style by choosing a lavish diamond encrusted clutch bag and finishing with a neat up-do and chances are you'll be papped by Marius Hansen, a leading London fashion photographer who is pulling together images of the best dressed from the night for a new V&A collection!
If you're lucky enough to be attending this fashion fabulous display you'll also be treated to the advance screening of Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel, the hotly anticipated documentary about the renowned fashion editor. More of a hands-on fashion fantatic? Aspiring fashion designers can take part in a hat-making workshop by Noel Stewart, and pattern cutting lessons with Deborah Milner.
When you've seen all you can see, and designed all you can design step out onto the outdoor ballroom (we did say this was a special event!) where your charming outfit will really make its debut! So get little black dress hunting girls, because the celebrations begin tonight from 6.30pm. The exhibition is FREE to enter, just be sure to dress to impress!
