Lace dresses for 2013
Team LBD is getting the sense that we may have to update our namesake's acronym pretty soon with the LBLD (little black lace dress, of course) set to be the dress of the season! With the S/S13 shows of Valentino Haute Couture and Yves Saint Laurent championing this seductive material in varying shades of black, bright and pastel it won't be long before the high street catches up.
Here at LittleBlackDress.co.uk however we'll never let a high end evening wear trend pass us by and we've already got a sumptuous selection of new season lace dresses to offer you from our talented occasion wear designers.
Traditionally we have looked at lace in one of three ways; lady-like lace worn with a pearl twin set and kid gloves, the gaunt Goth clutching at a crucifix or flammable, red synthetics to be found in the bargain bin of fairly niche stores… The game has however changed and lace in 2013 covers a variety of incredible looks that can be prim and sexy in equal measure, as our favourite A-listers have proved:
THE ORIGINAL LBLD: AMY ADAMS
We'll start with the defining look of the trend: the little black lace dress, which Ms Adams is wearing to perfection here. This does nod to one of our preconceptions about lace as she works lady-like chic; however, she avoids Stepford Wife by wearing the look with tumbling locks and killer heels. Keep this in mind when working a similar style, and keep it clean-cut and sexy like Ms Adams by avoiding pearls and kitten heels.

COLOUR POP CROCHET: KEIRA KNIGHTLEY
Ladylike lace with a S/S13 burst of colour. Keira has been our prim and proper fashion crush for a while, so it was no surprise when she appeared on The Tonight Show in this Burberry Prorsum bottle green dress. To do the lace dress in colour vision for spring Team LBD recommends the clever body-perfecting Lisa dress in a similar bold shade. Wear with nude heels like Keira to keep all eyes on your eye-popping style.

OPAQUE LACE: ADELE
The not-so-body-confident among us needn't shy away from the traditionally see-through lace look this year. Despite being the (hopefully) warmest season in fashion the powers that be, most likely inspired by stylish curvy ladies like Adele, have updated lace going out dresses to be a little more demure without scrimping on the sex appeal. So make like the Oscar-winning songstress and black dress-devotee in a similar long-sleeved black lace dress. The high waist-line and V-neck will also help to create height and pull in your frame.
Cover up in class like Adele here: Aftershock London Deshon Lace Evening Gown, Was £251, Now £177.50.
PASTEL POWER: SIENNA MILLER
We can always rely on Sienna for an unusual take on a designer evening dress trend and she has given us just that in this Erdem lace two piece. Wearing pastels for spring is of course a classic choice, but teaming it with origami style lace detail and a high neck makes this high fashion rather than sugary sweet. With her distinct lack of accessories and scraped back hair this is the very definition of high end, feminine lace for 2013. To recreate Sienna's new season style Team LBD will be working Kate Fearnley's pretty as a picture Laura dress. It has cute retro details like an open back and bow in light teal and candy pink, but with barely there make-up and accessories it can be a modern masterpiece!
Make like Sienna with a pastel palette: Kate Fearnley Laura Lace Dress in Turquoise, £185.
ANTIQUE LACE: KELLY BROOK
Again we are playing with the sex appeal of a good lace dress with the illusion of flesh in nude shades and a mesh effect. And no-one does sex appeal like glamour girl Kelly Brook! We spotted the model and presenter in this black lace dress at London Fashion Week and help but comment on how classy she looked (surprisingly perhaps for a dress that flirts with the idea of nudity). Choose one of Ruby Ray's lace dresses and wear with bare legs to maintain Kelly's sexy guessing game.
Get the barely-there lace look here: Ruby Ray Mini Skater Dress, £140.
FLORAL FROCK: JESSICA CHASTAIN
Working two trends at once can be tricky. Especially when both are SS13s loudest, proudest looks like flower power and lace are. Jessica Chastain succeeded in making the high fashion style look just that without either trend overpowering the other in a floral print pencil dress with lovely lace sleeves. This Alice dress similarly works simplicity with a hint of ladylike lace on the frilly cap sleeves and a watercolour-esque flower pattern. An elegant look that offers maximum impact, we'll have one in every shade!
