LFW: Topshop Unique A/W 12
Flying the British flag at London Fashion Week, Topshop have done what they do best and have once again created a ready-to-wear collection that is both fashion-forward and accessible. Drawing an impressive fash pack of Anna Wintour, Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevigne to their front row at Old Billingsgate Market, the label's utility-influenced collection exuded just the right amount of urban cool to really make an impression.Utilitarian constructions in black and khaki offered up a palette cleanser to the more delicate pastel shades of S/S with velvet & leather dominating the fabric choices. Feminine touches got thrown in for good measure, as dungarees were teamed with chic billlowing blouses and cute polkadot prints helped soften up blocks of leather.
There's been quite a buzz around Topshop lately after the news of another 10 years of NEWGEN sponsorship and their recent collaboration with designer of the moment Mary Katrantzou, but excitement was ever more present as we were all keen to see what impact previous British Vogue's fashion director Kate Phelan had made on the brand. We weren't left disappointed as the newly appointed creative director's experience came across instantly; making this without a doubt Unique's strongest collection to date. Each piece that came down the catwalk was well thought-out and created with the intention of making up a capsule wardrobe that would see any fashionista through several fashion seasons- versatile, affordable fashion that you can wear again, Team LBD approve! The velvet jumpsuit was a particular stand-out piece as well as the gorgeously girlie ruffled mini dresses which were quirkily teamed with spike-heeled boots to complete the show.
