Prom style trends

It's May and that can mean only one thing for young women across the country: prom season. So Team LBD asked Stacy Hinojosa, Editorial Director of Teen.com, a fast-paced, fashion-forward, celebrity-inspired website for teens, to let us in on the key prom trends for prom princesses this year...

The trend: It's all about red, red and more red! More is definitely more with this trend. Wear crimson colours to capture that red carpet glamour and really get you noticed at your big event.

On the catwalk: Valentino, Jill Stuart and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Celebrity lovers: Emma Watson at the BAFTA cocktail party and Emma Stone at the Met Costume Gala.

Stacy's top LBD picks: Wear the Blessus Globed Afternoon Dress, £230, in red from Littleblackdress.co.uk and accessorise it with dramatic eyes and a sleek up-do to encompass that sexy screen siren look.

The trend: This super sexy sheer trend will guarantee you a date for your prom. The sheer trend is all about sporting parts of flesh in a modest way with chic, sheer fabric- the more panels the better.

On the catwalk: John Galliano, Anne Demeulemeester, Felder and Felder and Dior. Celebrity lovers: Gwen Steffani, Miranda Kerr and Miley Cyrus at the People's Choice Award. Stacy's top LBD picks: This trend looks best with brighter shades of aqua, lavender or coral against white. This Blessus Jersey and Chiffon Dress, £190 is a perfect dress for this celebrity trend.

The trend: This is a show stopping trend for prom and for those who want to mix things up a little and go back to black for any formal affair. The trend involves super-romantic black lace, cut out sheer fabric and sequins. A bit of sparkle is really important if you're nervous about channeling an all-black look!

On the catwalk: Zuhair Murad, Valentino, and Dolce & Gabbana. Celebrity lovers: Kim Kardashian, Kristen Stewart and Vanessa Hudgens. Stacy's top LBD picks: Kristen Stewart looked both romantic and edgy at the London premiere of the Snow White and the Huntsmen. You too can achieve this look for your prom with the Z-Mode Grace Dress, £390.

The trend: The messy bun is a great hairstyle to add a little casual-chic to your prom dress. Weave chains and embellished threads through your bun for that red carpet party glamour. And remember, this look is all about looking like you've spent seconds whipping your hair into this beautifully teased bun to compliment your effortless glamour. But feel free to spend hours preening to get to this stage! Celebrity lovers: Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart. Why Stacy loves it: I love the messy bun with bits of gold chain running through a la Jennifer Lawrence.

The trend: The peplum, it's fun and flirty and retro- what's not to love!? This look is great for a prom as its flattering, durable and so much fun. This trend is all about that extra material around your waist so choose any fabric and any colour as long as it's fun!

On the catwalk: Alexander McQueen, Céline and Stella McCartney. Celebrity lovers: Blake Lively, Solange Knowles, Emma Watson and Emma Stone. Stacy's top LBD picks: This is one of my favoriate trends. The Quontum Grey Peplum Dress, ¬£69, is great for those looking for a fun-loving dress that they can wear for events to come. Shop all prom dresses at Littleblackdress.co.uk.
