Show report: Marc Jacobs A/W12
We may have only just started buying mini dresses and strappy shoes for the three days of Summer we'll be enjoying later this year, but fashion waits for no-one! So we've got some gorgeous pieces from Marc Jacobs' New York Fashion Week show to get you on-trend early for Autumn/Winter 2012.
Pirate hats with plentiful plumage, brassy buckled shoes, ankle socks drenched in glitter, lampshade silhouettes and a whole load of black made up Marc Jacobs' Fall collection this year. Oh and dresses, oh the party dresses! The theme of the show was fairytale with a twist. Whispy white castles, miniature palaces and dreamy decoration filled the stage whilst 'Who will buy this wonderful morning' from the musical Oliver serenaded the FROWers (who of course included Jacobs' muse, Dakota Fanning). Models stomped down the runway in sturdy shoes covered in diamanté and giant furry wide-brimmed hats and showcased an array of Alice in Wonderland/Dr Seuss inspired oversized buttons, handbags and tulip skirts- a flattering alternative to your usual straight up and down evening gown. Dresses were predominantly black and metallic for next season which will make the most of your existing S/S 12 evening wear collection and your trusty LBDs. However, this dark and wintery selection was updated with colourful tweeds, this season's Indian Heritage print, bursts of bright floral pattern and a muddled thrift shop-chic style which worked well with the classic fur stoles and traditional pea coats. Ankle-flashing was a strong theme too: skirts and trousers stopped just above statement ankle socks, making this forseeable trend a trickly one for those of us not blessed with size zero calves!
