The new season LBD trends from London Fashion Week

Black is not usually a colour you associate with Spring/Summer fashion but it has proved a popular choice amongst designers at London Fashion Week. Everything from origami-pleat mini dresses, monochrome party dresses and super embellished maxis that scream red carpet have graced the London catwalks this past week. So what have been the stand out black dress trends so far and how can you wear them? Our round-up will reveal all… Embellishment Embellished frocks and heavy detailing are usually saved for the winter months, but S/S 13 is going to have a lot of sparkle. All-over-sequins at Topshop Unique were toned down with oversized cardigans, Antonio Berardi went full on glamour while PPQ kept the detailing to the collar on a simple mini. So how to wear it? If dressing like a disco ball scares you slightly then try incorporating embellished pieces into your wardrobe such as a gem-encrusted bag or collar. This Buba Zara Clutch Bag is perfect for adding some glamour to a plain outfit. If you have great legs, why not try a short sequinned 60s style mini dress. It's simple and in black it will never go out of date. This The Style Standard Margit Brandt mini dress is a style classic. Another way to wear sequins is to use them to highlight areas of your body you love such as our Quontum Black Sequin Curve Dress which has a curve of sequins to create wonderfully feminine curves. Any age, any shape you can make embellishment work for you, just stick to what you feel comfortable with as this trend is going to attract attention. The Style Standard Sequin Dress by Margit Brandt, Was: ¬£189, Now: ¬£56.70, Buba Zara Clutch Bag, ¬£378, Just Anna Audrey Court Show, ¬£219. Monochrome Monochrome pieces never go out of style and next season designers are still loving this classic combination. And every shape is covered. Whether you like structure, simple detailing or soft and feminine there is a trend for you. Maria Grachvogel kept it sleek and chic with clever panelling designed to give you shape while Giles kept it simple with shoulder accents. In contrast, Sass & Bide created playful pleats that would look great on pretty young things. Wondering how to work it? Monochrome is very easy to wear and you can find a pattern that is as simple or as complex as you like. But if you are less than confident, ease yourself in with simple pieces. Wear black on the areas you want to minimise, so if you are top heavy stick to black tops. Monochrome panelling can also make you look slimmer, so look for dresses with black panels to slim your waist. If you want something more exciting try our James Lakeland Jacquard Dress. The colour combination teamed with the luxurious pattern makes this a great dress for evening and the wool fabric will keep you warm this Winter. Wear with simple black court shoes and a plain clutch bag. James Lakeland Jacquard Dress with Bow, ¬£159, Bourne Amber Clutch in Black, Was: ¬£132, Now: ¬£72.77, Kat Maconie Ida Shoe in Black, ¬£162.50. Floor-sweepers Okay so we don't get to attend many premieres but for special occasions nothing says wow like a black maxi dress. Temperley London, PPQ and Issa all showcased glamourous gowns in chiffon and Sass & Bide rocked theirs up with metallic hardness and bold detailing. But a simple black maxi dress will remain in your wardrobe forever. Where and how do you work the maxi dress in to a winter wardrobe though? These sort of wow gowns are best kept for parties and weddings but the simpler the shape the more wear you will get out of it. If you want something flattering and simple the CeMe London Henrietta Dress has subtle ruching to hide any lumps and bumps and is comfortable to wear. Of course you could also combine two of the trends and go for an embellished maxi dress for a real show-stopper look, like this one-shoulder design from Mascara. CeMe London Henrietta, ¬£185, Mascara Sequins Shoulder Maxi Dress, Was: ¬£249, Now: ¬£174.30, Gorgeous Couture Rihanna Swarovski Dress, ¬£220. Subtle Cut Outs Last season cut-outs were huge news with lots of designers exposing our midriffs, waists and necklines with open details. For S/S13 the cut-out has gone more gothic with net-like cut-outs layered over nude slips and fabrics. Temperley London's fifties style dress is gorgeous and tricks the eye into thinking more is on show than it is while Jean-Pierre Braganza created abstract shapes through clever cut outs. But who can wear this revealing trend? Cut-outs can be used like monochrome to highlight areas that are your favourite and they are also a great way to add interest to a plain outfit. This stunning CeMe London Audrey dress is sleek and nods to the trend perfectly. A more subtle take on this trend, for ladies who are less likely to get their less than perfect bodies on show, is our Edith dress from Rise Fashion. The flattering shape plus lace and crochet detail make this dress perfect for any occasion. Or if you want to work a midriff cut-out this denim dress from Hedonia is cute, fun and flirty. Perfect for spring (if we learned one thing at LFW it's that fashion waits for no-one!). CeMe London Audrey Dress, ¬£150, Rise Fashion Elizabeth Dress, ¬£80, Hedonia Denim Maria Dress, ¬£70. There you have it, the key trends for black dresses next season. We are excited already! Other trends to look out for? Full skirts, bold colour accents and loose, floaty shapes and sack dresses.
