Fashion tribute: Icons wearing Karl Lagerfeld

The Little Black Dress team are heartbroken to hear that iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has died aged 85 in Paris, February 19th. Karl Lagerfeld will be dearly missed. He was undoubtedly one of the most influential and important creatives of our time.

The fashion world pays tribute to Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld was a fashion legend who saved Chanel in the 1980's. Consequently, he spent a further thirty years as its artistic director. Lagerfeld was notorious for his acid tongue. Furthermore, he was well known for his love for the iconic little black dress. The designer once stated that "One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress" and we couldn't agree more!

Celebrities and designers were quick to pay tribute to Lagerfeld. Spice Girl-turned-designer Victoria Beckham lead a host of tributes to the late fashion designer. She wrote: 'So incredibly sad to hear this. Karl was a genius and always so kind and generous to me both personally and professionally. RIP'.

Fellow designer Marc Jacobs also paid his respects, sharing a heartfelt piece on social media: 'Waking up to a world without Karl. So sad. And strange. He was a great inspiration to me, and, undeniably a unique and extraordinary talent. RESPECT. Rest In Peace KL.'

Italian fashion designer, Dontella Versace, also posted about Lagerfeld, writing: 'your genius touched the lives of so many, especially Gianni and I. We will never forget your incredible talent and endless inspiration. We were always learning from you.'

Actress, Emma Stone loves rocking pants on the red carpet. Therefore, with Karl Lagerfeld's eccentric creativity, Stone wore an embellished straight-leg style to the 2017 BAFTAs. At Chanel's Paris fashion show, 2018, Frieda Pinto secured her style credentials. Achieved by donning this gorgeous white shift dress designed by Karl Lagerfeld. US Vogue Editor, Anna Wintour wore a stunning Karl Lagerfeld dress at the Met Gala, 2015. Complete with a poppy print, sequinned embroidery and a floral collar. As well as, a belt and shoulder accents made of flowers also. This was deemed to be the wildest dress Anna Wintour had ever worn prior to the event. Consequently, this Lagerfeld dress became one of the most memorable red carpet designs.

Natalie Portman blew away all of lace's fuddy-duddy connotations when she appeared at the 2006 Golden Globes in a strapless Chanel LBD. Karl Lagerfeld sculpted the bodice around the bust. Furthermore, designing it to fall into a loosely fitting skirt. It wowed everyone.

A fashion legacy

Chanel's iconic creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, leaves behind a lasting fashion legacy thanks to his incredible and often revolutionary creations. We are so sad to see him go. Contrariwise, we are also grateful to experience his tribute to fashion. Moreover, we will continue to marvel at the amazing dresses he designed forever.
