Vera Wang's wedding gown goes over to the dark side!
Though you may be quick to dismiss the idea of wearing black for your big day, we think you may be fighting a losing battle with wedding gown goddess, Vera Wang, at the helm of this new bridal fashion palette.
The top designer, famed for her beautiful wedding dresses adorned by the most extravagant celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Jenifer Lopez and now Kim Kardashian, has always been known for pushing the boundaries of bridal etiquette, often sending mints and nudes down her wedding style runway. But black wedding dresses? Really?
Before passing judgement on this bold move we insist you check out Ms Wang's collection. Whilst the witchcraft inspired colour may be controversial (not so much for us, we love a good LBD-wedding!) the cuts and designs are still very true to the romantic, ruffled meringue-esque image we have in our fairytale wedding dreams.
In this black wedding dress collection, which Wang showcased this week at New York's Bridal Fashion Week, bigger meant better with large tulles and taffeta inserts, lace sleeves and chiffon layers creating volume and movement. And the black doesn't make you forget this is a wedding gown. It's far too pretty to be Gothic and there is something very elegant about the mysterious colour choice combined with Wang's trademark feminine shapes.
With the queen of holy matrimony at the forefront of this norm-challenging style, we wouldn't be surprised if weddings everywhere were shunning the traditional ivory centrepiece this time next year. So watch out for an LBD-wedding coming to an aisle near you!
Until then, here's our pick of wedding-worthy black numbers to get ahead of the fashion pack....
