Occasion dresses are fun to buy but which should you choose?
Long or short? See our simple 7 point guide below for a quick glance at some
simple suggestions (remember these are guidelines only, always aim to feel good
in your dresses, this shines through.
A formal event - usually go for a long evening dress in
either satin, velvet or embellishments. Perfect for sitting for a dinner
function, and then gracefully dancing the night away.
Race Day, Ladies Day
dressing rules - go for a cocktail dress. This is a fabulous knee-high or mid
calf gown often with sleeves as some events like Ascot actually ban shoulders
and arms being bared in certain enclosures.
Date night - go shorter to a mini dress length. All rules
are out, just make them stare.
Weddings, bridesmaids and Mother of the Bride - always try
to follow the dress code and colour theme. White is generally a big no. But
black can now be worn to weddings and look ultra chic. Some brides dress their
retinues in black long gowns.
Mother of the Brides usually opt for a complementary colour
to the groom or bride, with a below-the-knee cocktail gown with hat and clutch
bag.
Funeral - try for black, a modest style cocktail dress with
sleeves and sits below the knee.
Prom Party or red carpet event. Go bold or go home.
Lust-worthy gowns should suit your bodyshape. Go for curves, if you're lucky
enough to have them, or beautiful sleek, slender trumpet style dresses or
fishtail gowns.
Graduation dresses - can be long or short. Often depends on
the climate as some pictures are taken outside.
