On one of the hottest days of the year so far, the elite of the small screen acting world and the presenters and socialites of Britain alike turned out to celebrate a year of television with the TV BAFTA Awards at the Theatre Royal in London's West End on Sunday. Meanwhile across the pond, musician superstars turned out in full force to make an impact on the red carpet to celebrate the latest musical talents at the Billboard Awards in Las Vegas. So we thought what better way to round-up the red carpet events than a UK Vs USA fashion showdown; here are our best looks...

The little black dress

They may both be wearing a black dress but singers Nicki Minaj and Sophie Ellis Bextor both opted for very different styles for their moment in the limelight this weekend. For the Billboard Music Awards Nicki's cut-out Alexander McQueen column dress was on first appearances rather demure, although her ample assets allowed a racy peek at her under-boob on closer inspection. Dancing on Ice star, Sophie took a completely different approach with her demure skirt and beautifully embellished sheer-detail top, adding a pop of pink lipstick to brighten her look. Shop all black dresses and go sultry like Nicki or ladylike a la Sophie.

The diva show stoppers

One is a hugely successful supermodel and presenter and the other an infamous singer and actress, but these two ladies share more than a few things in common: they've both been in the industry over twenty years, they both never age and it seems they're still stealing all the attention at red carpet events whenever they grace them with their presence. Naomi Campbell turned out beautifully for the TV BAFTAS in a chic cut-away floor-sweeping gown with her beautiful raven locks tumbling down her back as she posed statuesquely for the paparazzi. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez was causing a stir in a plunging red chiffon dress from Karen Millen's Fall collection - a style that closely mimicked the infamous Versace dress she wore for the Grammys in 2000 - whilst she accepted an Icon Award at the ceremony later on. The little white dress

An unavoidable trend to be seen on any red carpet this year, Presenter Laura Whitmore and reality star Kylie Jenner both looked stylish as they turned out in different versions of the LWD for the weekend's award ceremonies. Ms Whitmore opted for a floor-length gown with cut-away back detailing to attend the TV BAFTAS in London and accessoried with a white clutch and tumbling blonde locks to complete her chic look. Keeping up with the Kardashians sister Kylie Jenner made an impact with her green-tipped hair but kept her sleek white pencil dress at the forefront and accessorised with strappy white heels for an edgy look at the Billboard Music Awards. The Julien Macdonald dress

A firm favourite with celebrities for his red carpet-worthy designs, both Shakira and Millie Mackintosh wore variations of Julien Macdonald's Fall 2014 collection to make their entrance at the weekends' events. Colombian singer Shakira accentuated her slender hourglass physique with an optical-illusion blue dress that featured sheer side panels and long-sleeves for her appearance in Las Vegas. Made in Chelsea star and fashionista, Millie joined her rapper husband Professor Green at the TV BAFTAS and looked sensational in her gold embellished dress with crocheted side-panels. Pairing her designer dress with a gold metallic clutch, white heels and a slick of dark rouge, Ms Mackintosh certainly earned her place on the red carpet. Shop your own designer dress here.

The monochrome trend

A trend that flared up on the Louis Vuitton runway last summer, the monochrome trend is still going strong and when it makes an impact like this, we can see why. Kendall Jenner, sister to Ms Kim Kardashian has been popping up on all the big-name catwalks this season and it seems she's picked up some serious styling tips along the way as she looked effortlessly cool for the Billboard Awards in her backless black and white jumpsuit, which she paired with silver heels and matching metallic clutch. The Saturdays band member Rochelle Humes, also made a sartorial choice in a fetching black and white column dress with contemporary neckline that she paired with black accessories and statement black and white diamante earrings for her appearance in the West End.
