Get Downton Abbey Style

It's not often that a television show makes such an impact on the world that fashion designers base a whole collection around it. But the ITV1 drama Downton Abbey has become so popular with viewers (and us at Littleblackdress.co.uk) that the A/W 12 catwalks were awash with Twenties-style pieces.

Sales of Ewardiana-style fashion have hit the roof since the show aired with top sellers including jewellery, feather capes, fake fur stoles and elbow length gloves. The Downton Look is very recognisible and has been seen on the catwalks from Ralph Lauren to Burberry, with Marc Jacobs even admitting to having images of the cast strew around his designer studio when working on the Louis Vuitton A/W collection. But head to toe Twenties fashion could look like you are heading to a fancy dress party, so make it modern with simple dresses and accessories. Rich jewel tones, blacks and creams are very Downton, with deep burgundy and purple all over this seasons catwalks. The Crawley sisters love their elegant, elbow length gloves but if this is too much for you invest in a jeweled hair pin or headband. You can go as big or a subtle as you like, with hair accessories a big part of a Twenties ladies night time attire. These are the easiest way to get the Downton look and are perfect for parties and weddings. Johnny Loves Rosie have some great pieces for amazing prices and Rachel Black has an amazing selection of headpieces that are sure to get you noticed. Long beaded or pearl necklaces are also very wearable and can be used to dress up the simplest of outfits like this one from Paula Bolton Collection.

Fiorelli Art Deco Pendant and Chain, £29.95. Rachel Black Milinery Twist Beret Headpiece, £75. Johnny Loves Rosie Silver and Diamante clip with Giant Pearl, £20. The Paula Bolton Collection Black and White Pearl necklace, £45. For daytime; country tweed, cloche hats and riding boots in black and chestnut brown are practical and stylish. Fur trimmed coat collars and stoles are also eternally chic, but keep it fake fur. Small, structured bags were all the rage but for a modern take go for a bigger size like this one from Alison van der Lande.
