Magnum On Set at the London Film Museum Hollywood has always been seen as the place of extravagance, glamour, and fun. Where else but Hollywood would you find an actress like Gloria Swanson bathing in a solid gold bath, and where else could you have seen icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor recite their first lines. Now thanks to the London Film Museum a touch of Hollywood glamour has made its way over to the UK. Magnum On Set is a showcase of 146 of the world’s most iconic photographs from Hollywood. For Team LBD the highlight of the collection is an iconic photograph of LBD icon Marilyn Monroe, captured by Eve Arnold. The emotive image shows Marilyn Monroe in the Nevada desert, practicing her lines for a difficult scene with Clarke Gable for the film The Misfits by John Huston in 1960. This exhibition, with its variety of photographers and movie stars is a real enchantment for all those who love both photography and the moving image. The exhibition gives an insight into the exclusive world of Hollywood through the 20th century. Not forgetting all you fashion lovers either, you will be pleased to know that as well as the capsule photographs, there will be original props, scripts and costumes. Giving the onlookers an insight into Hollywood film at its best, this era really did set precedent for both the fashion and film industry to date. Imagine the fashion world without Elizabeth Taylor in her two piece, and Marilyn Monroe in The Seven Year Itch- it just would not be the same. We have Hollywood to thank for that. So if you fancy feeling what it’s like to be in the Hollywood movies, to don those sultry little black dresses and learn the lines you’re your fellow starlets then pop along to the London Film Museum in Covent Garden to see the Magnum On Set exhibition before the 1st of September.
